Many runners know that some of the best running buddies in the world come on four legs. Normally, they also come with a leash and an owner, but that wasn’t the case for Dozer, a 3-year-old goldendoodle that escaped the invisible fencing of his home and crossed the finish line of the on May 15.

I saw something that surprised me the other day: an obituary or death notice for a pet. It appeared on the website of a local funeral home. The people whose pet it was used to live in our area but had moved out of state.

I love Groucho Marx. All I have to do is think about that zany, low slung walk of his, and I smile. And if I actually see it in one of his old movies, I'm howling with laughter.

Is your dog out of work? Maybe the victim of downsizing, after some shorter legged breed snatched up his job and ran off with it? Is he spending his days padding the pavement looking for a job, sniffing out every possible lead? Or perhaps he's just in the market for a career cha …

There's nothing like the fast approaching Valentine's Day and TV programming full of romantic movies to get me thinking about my all time favorite love songs.

Valentine's Day is almost here, and, of course, that means romantic movies. Regardless of the movie, I like to laugh, and I also appreciate a movie that makes me think (although not too hard).

I wrote an article a while back asking people to share their family Christmas traditions. As I wrote it, I realized that I was having trouble remembering any of the Christmas presents I'd received as a child.

As I watched my neighbor hang his outdoor lights yesterday - something I've seen him do each year for over twenty years - I started thinking about the Christmases I had as a child and the holiday traditions in our family. Much of what we did was pretty standard.

There was a time when I thought that dressing up pets was weird. Not to mention annoying for the pets. Then I became "mom" to several fur persons – three dogs and a cat, to be specific – who loved dressing up.

When my kids were younger, I took them out trick-or-treating one dark Halloween evening in our suburban neighborhood. Our first stop was the one they'd been talking about for a week, the house three doors down where the new family had turned their front yard into an outdoor House …

It's October 24. A week before Halloween. That means that I've just spent the better part of the past five weeks in my annual pre-Halloween battle of wills with the forces of evil, those that would turn my house and yard into a vision of unspeakable horror.

I'm a sucker for scary entertainment, and last week, I had a real treat. As part of their pre-Halloween line-up, the SyFy Channel trotted out and dusted off several episodes of the late, lamented (by me, anyway) series Brimstone. A veritable Brimstone-athon. I was thrilled.

I woke up and was greeted by this in my refrigerator. What a great way to start the day! I guess my crazy, beautiful, awesome wife decided to bring a smile to our faces and it sure worked.
Life is rather easy for me, so I can't fill in the blank! We weren't promised just good times when we were born. We were blessed with balance: good and bad, up and down, pain and pleasure.

Sydney- Thanks! And, it is so great to meet another Best Friend!! I hope that hubby and I can make it there late next spring-it's only about 10 hours away and I want to help out...I think with the dogs, maybe the cats, or, maybe the horses! LOL!
Sydney .. I have so enjoyed reminiscing about our perfect little angels (with 4 legs) on the "Dogs get human names as they become part of family" story. I don't think them becoming part of the family is anything new though. At least not for me, it's been that way my whole life and we're talking the last 52 years! LOL Animal lovers do seem to find one another rather easily and quickly. We also, most definitely, stand together when the circumstances warrant. Thank you for accepting my friend invite! I look forward to many more brag sessions! Gotta run for now, Gizmo had surgery Wednesday (neutered and micro-chipped) so he's a bit demanding .. and, of course, I allow it. LOL .. Keep in touch! ..
